In-vitro Comparative Study of the use of 2 % Chlorhexidine on Microtensile Bond Strength of Different Dentin Adhesives: A 6 Months Evaluation International Journal of Morphology
Bravo,Cristián; Sampaio,Camila S; Hirata,Ronaldo; Puppin-Rontani,Regina M; Mayoral,Juan Ricardo; Giner,Lluis.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) dentin treatment on microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of adhesive systems in different storage times. Occlusal enamel was removed from ninety third-molars and flat surfaces of middle dentin were exposed. Teeth were randomly divided in 6 groups according to adhesive system (etch-and-rinse : Adper Scotchbond 1XT - ASB ; self-etch: Adper Prompt L-Pop APP; and universal: Single Bond Universal - SBU) and chlorhexidine (CHX) dentin treatment (2 % CHX application for 20 s prior Primer). After resin composite build up, teeth were sectioned to obtain beam specimens and divided in 3 subgroups (n=5): 72h, 3 and 6 months storage times. After the storage times, teeth were tested in tension until...

Morphological Alterations of the Surfaces of Enamel and Dentin of Deciduous Teeth Irradiated with Nd:YAG, C0(2)and Diode Lasers International Journal of Morphology
Souza,Mónica Rodrigues de; Watanabe,Ii-Sei; Azevedo,Luciane H; Tanji,Edgar Y.
In this work, we studied the effects of C0(2), Nd:YAG and diode lasers on the enamel and dentin of deciduous human teeth. After the irradiations, the samples were duly prepared and set up on metallic bases, covered with gold and examined in the scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the irradiation with the C0(2) mode locked laser with 1.0 W power caused melting and irregularities with small cavities on the surface of the enamel. The irradiated area on the dentin surface appeared circular and well delimited, containing blocks of dentin and cracks. By using the pulsed Nd:YAG laser with 1.0 W mean power and 10 Hz frequency, the enamel surface presented granules of molten enamel, with a typical melting look. The irradiated dentin surface...

Successful amplification of mitochondrial DNA from dentin of the bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus BABT
Weber,Laura Isabel; Luca,Michelle Jaccottet de; Barreto,André Silva; Souza,Tiago Tolentino de.
Twenty-four teeth of Tursiops truncatus from the collection of the Marine Mammals Laboratory (FURG-RS) were analysed for their potential as DNA source for population genetic and taxonomic studies. All teeth were submitted to decontamination, grinding and demineralisation processes. Dentin powder was weighed for DNA extraction, which was evaluated by the amplification of two mitochondrial genes through PCR using universal primers. Cytochrome-b gene was amplified successfully. PCR products showed concentrations of 3-12 ng/µl for dentin powder, which was positively correlated to the quantity of dentin powder used for DNA extraction. To rule out contamination a SSCP was carried out including positive controls, and samples of humans involved in the analysis....

Use of Morphometric Analyses to Assess the Efficacy of the Technique of Resin Composite Bonded to Cervical Dentin with Additional Mechanical Retentions International Journal of Morphology
Kuramochi,Gisaku; Borie,Eduardo; del Sol,Mariano.
The structural changes and morphological derivatives of progressive dentin hypermineralization determine the bonding to its surface. A planimetric study and fracture volume estimate were conducted to assess the efficacy of resin composite bonded to hypermineralized cervical dentin with and without retentions by applying a shear test. Thirty-four premolars from adult patients were used to obtain a flat cervical dentin surface. The specimens were distributed randomly into two groups: 1) experimental, where hemispherical retentions were carved into the cervical dentin, and 2) control, where the flat dentin was maintained. Using a jig, a resin column was built into the dentin surface fitted with bonding in specimens from both groups, which were then subjected...
